New wage subsidy scheme of up to 90% for mountainous and remote areas
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security announced a new subsidised employment scheme for workers residing in mountainous and remote areas of the country.
The new action aims to strengthen employment in the regions, while at the same time giving businesses a significant incentive to create new jobs through teleworking.
What does the new scheme provide?
According to what has been announced to date:
- employment will be carried out remotely,
- the subsidy will cover 90% of the salary and social security contributions,
- the duration of the subsidy will be 12 months,
- the scheme will concern businesses that employ workers residing in mountainous and remote areas.
The philosophy of the action is to provide workers with the possibility of remaining in their place of residence and working remotely for businesses, reducing the need to travel to the major urban centres.
A significant incentive for businesses?
Covering 90% of labour and social security costs for a period of one year may constitute a particularly significant incentive for businesses planning new hires and having positions that can be supported through teleworking.
At the same time, the action seeks to connect businesses’ human resources needs with the strengthening of employment and economic activity in the Greek regions.
Is a detailed invitation expected?
The scheme is at the announcement stage. The publication of the official invitation is expected, in which the participation conditions, eligible businesses and workers, the geographical areas to be included, the maximum subsidy amount, as well as the application procedure, will be set out in detail.
Businesses interested in making use of the new action would do well to follow the relevant announcements so as to assess in good time the possibility of their inclusion.
AFS is monitoring developments and will promptly inform you of the detailed terms and the participation procedure once the scheme’s official invitation is published.
